Improving your relationship

For many of us, our relationship with our partner can become the victim of emotional difficulties within us or problems external to the relationship. Life’s problems and stresses often become a third partner in our relationship, affecting how we talk to each other, how we see each other and how we feel about each other.

Relationships and people change over time and it can become difficult to navigate through these changes. The most common symptoms of this are:

  • falling into set patterns of how we talk to each other and stunted communication
  • harbouring more and more unresolved grievances that cause even the most petty disagreement to snowball out of control
  • we begin to forget who we are as individuals and blame our partners
  • We make assumptions about how our partner feels about us and project our feelings about ourselves onto them
  • We find it difficult to find balance in our lives - when life is throwing too much at us at any one time, our relationship is often the first thing we neglect.

More often than not, relationship difficulties can be resolved through directed and honest communication that moves away from the realm of blame into the realm of solutions and understanding. A third party expert facilitator can be very helpful in taking this step and opening up new and more effective channels of dialogue.
